Any movie for $3: cinemas in the US offer great discounts, but only for one day
For one day, movie tickets will cost as little as $3 at the vast majority of US theaters as part of the newly launched National Film Day to lure viewers into the screenings, reports NY1.
The Motion Picture Foundation, a non-profit arm of the National Association of Theater Owners, announced on August 28 that September 3 will be a nationwide discount day at more than 3000 theaters and more than 30 screens.
Major chains are participating, including AMC and Regal Cinemas, as well as all major film studios.
At participating theaters, tickets will cost no more than $3 per show in any format.

Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the quietest weekends in cinemas. This year the August lull was especially acute for the exhibitors.
If successful, National Film Day could draw audiences to theaters and potentially encourage them to return in the fall. Prior to each screening, ticket buyers will be shown a trailer of upcoming films from A24, Amazon Studios, Disney, Focus Features, Lionsgate, Neon, Paramount, Sony Pictures Classics, Sony, United Artists Releasing, Universal, and Warner Bros.
“After a record-breaking return to movie theaters this summer, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” said Jackie Brenneman, president of the Cinema Foundation. “We're doing this to say 'thank you' to the moviegoers who made this summer of cinema possible, and to offer extra motivation for those who haven't yet returned to the cinema."
In the summer, after more than two years of the pandemic, cinemas rebounded significantly, with business back to near pre-pandemic levels. Films such as Top Gun: Maverick, Minions: Gruvitation, Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness, and Jurassic World: Domination increased domestic box office revenue to $21 billion as of August 2018, 3,3 according to Comscore. This lags behind 2019 totals by about 20%, but exhibitors had about 30% fewer wide releases this year.

National Film Day organizers said the event could become an annual event. While some other countries have experimented with a similar cheap movie ticket day, the initiative is the first of its kind on such a large scale in the US.
