Some terms stand out from others in various categories. To determine the best states to live in, WalletHub compared 50 states across 52 key livability metrics. These range from housing costs and income growth to educational levels and hospital quality.

With the exception of the "Overall score" item, all items represent the relative rank of that condition, where rank 1 represents the best condition for that performance category.
