Personal experience: how to get to the Statue of Liberty
We think about the USA - we imagine the Statue of Liberty, we think about the Statue of Liberty - we imagine the USA. We kept postponing this trip until better times, but in the end “better times” happened spontaneously: “Let’s sail to Freedom and see!” By the way, now is a good time in terms of price, there is a very attractive discount. So how to get there!?
Open official site and select all the necessary options. Let's understand a little more. You can swim from two points: New York Battery Park (more crowded, ships float more often) and New Jersey Liberty State Park (fewer people).
From the point of view of the tourist, from New York it is more convenient to do this: the subway is near, went to the shore and swam. From our side, it is a little harder for those who do not have a car: they will have to walk through the park to the shore, but if it’s a walk, then it’s not annoying to walk around the park, you can meet different little animals.
As you already understood from the picture, the trip includes two destinations. And now another important difference between the two points of departure: ROUTE!
If you swim out New York: First you are taken to the Statue of Liberty - then to Ellis Island - and then back to New York. The boats have different berths, so you can’t confuse them!
If you swim out Jersey city: First you find yourself on Ellis Island, then on Statue Island and then back to Jersey City again.
Tickets are checked once - at the stage of the first landing, you can, theoretically, return from Statue Island to New York, but only with a stop at Ellis Island and waiting for landing and landing there.
Here are the ships themselves:
We will travel with you from Jersey City, our first stop Ellis Island. Views are awesome:
Here is the island itself.
Now here is an immigration museum, quite large, so that everyone needs to look around for quite a long time, they give an audio guide. This used to be the point of arrival of immigrants. The island with an area of 11 hectares was formed mainly from the soil taken out during the construction of the New York subway; The island is located about a kilometer from the southern Cape of Manhattan.
On average, an immigrant spent on the island from 3 to 5 hours. In the main building, the new arrivals climbed to the second floor of the reception hall, also known as the “Great Hall,” along the stairs that played a major role in all this epic. This rise was also called the "six-second inspection."
Doctors and nurses, observing immigrants from above, were screened out for further examination of the limping and breathless (as possible cardiac or tuberculous patients). Fate was decided in the hall of registration.
Suitcases just like ours:

But the photo outside:
Miss Freedom is waiting for us, are we going?
Ships go quite often, quickly gaining willing, and, accompanied by gulls, we are rapidly moving towards the goal. The entire trip takes approximately 5 minutes.
As you know, in Paris there is a small copy of the USA symbol: in 1889, the Americans presented the French with a reduced 4 fold copy of the statue (its height was 11,5 m), which was installed in Paris on Swan Island - a narrow artificial dam on the Seine, near the Eiffel Tower. Originally it was turned towards the tower itself, i.e. to the venue of the famous Paris World Exhibition, and only in 1937, it was launched to the west. Now she is looking directly at her “older sister” in New York.
Visitors pass 356 steps to the crown of the statue of liberty or 192 steps to the top of the pedestal. The crown contains 25 windows, which symbolize earth gems and heavenly rays that illuminate the world. The seven rays on the crown of the statue symbolize the seven seas and the seven continents (the western geographical tradition consists of seven continents).
Here you have Freedom from different angles:
You can feel the scale when you see people in this photo:
Separately, I will say about security. To get to the ship, you must first go through the inspection with tape and frame: things on the tape, themselves through the frame, remove outer clothing, shoes remain on you. But for the passage to the statue will have to hand over backpacks and bags, food, liquid, etc. The camera remains with you. Luggage storage is paid.
So, those who have moved should definitely visit - this is definitely a memorable trip!
