A compliment on a cup and a $ 3000 tip: touching stories from American cafes

A Starbucks customer was surprised by the secret message the barista left on her cup, and the owner of the restaurant, forced to close due to the pandemic, was shocked by the amount that one of the customers left for tea. Starbucks customer Ashley Wilkins posted on her TikTok a secret message left to her by a barista, clearly hinting at flirting. Now her followers are convincing Wilkins to go on a date with him.

Wilkins shared details of the encounter in a short video that showed how her barista, whom she calls "Starbucks Steve," tried to get her attention. As seen in the video, "Steve" allegedly wrote a "secret message" on one side of the cup with an arrow pointing to the usual stamped message: "Caution, the beverage you're about to enjoy is extremely hot).

Steve used a highlighter to cross out parts of the text, changing the text to "Caution ... you're ... extremely hot."

Wilkins described this as "the next level" of flirting, and commentators seemed to agree with her.

"Steve makes his move!" one user noted in response to the video, which was originally posted in late October but only recently went viral with over 1,5 million views.

“Sorry, but he deserves a date,” another insisted.

Wilkins, meanwhile, seems to have taken the lettering as a compliment, but her husband, who was with her at Starbucks, is obviously a little jealous that he, too, did not receive a note from the barista girl who prepared his drink.

"He said, 'I even gave Linda (he made up her name) a dollar tip when we ordered coffee, but they treated you special,'" Wilkins wrote of her husband's reaction.

"We'll see you again"

In Cleveland, Ohio, a customer left a tip of $ 3000 after ordering a beer at a restaurant that is forced to close due to the pandemic, writes ABC News.

On Sunday, November 22, the man walked into the Night City restaurant, ordered a beer and asked for a receipt, which was $7,02, owner Brendan Ring wrote on Facebook.

Ring said the man wished him all the best and told him to share a tip with the four employees who served customers at brunch.

When the man came out, Ring looked at the tip and "realized he left a whopping $ 3000."

“I ran after him and he said it’s not a mistake, we’ll see you again when you open,” the owner said.

Ring said he would not publish the client's name because he thinks he doesn't need it.

The owner said that he and his staff are "humbly grateful for this incredibly kind and dignified gesture."
