California under attack: a new hurricane is coming to the USA

Flash floods and heavy rains could hit the southwestern United States - a new hurricane is raging in Mexico and, according to meteorologists, will then move towards the United States.

According to the US National Hurricane Center, Rosa will pass through the Baha-California peninsula on Monday with the destructive force of a tropical storm, bringing heavy rains and flash floods, writes The Daily Mail.

Then the storm will head northwest at high speed: over the Mogul ring of Arizona fall from 2 to 4 inches (5-10 cm) of precipitation and from 1 to 2 inches (2,5-5 cm) will fall to the rest of the desert South-West, central Rocky mountains and the Great Basin. There may be more precipitation in some selected areas.

Experts warned the American media that precipitation in southern Nevada and Arizona, as well as throughout the Southwest, can cause dangerous flash floods or even landslides in the desert. Meteorologists warn: when a tropical downpour begins, sand canyons can very quickly turn into raging rivers, or a sand storm will rise.

Southern California is expected to receive half an inch of rain for the first time this season. According to experts, this threatens, for now, minor debris transfer and an increased risk of slippery road surfaces. Showers are expected to reach Arizona late Sunday and early Monday before spreading into more moderate showers by midweek.

Most of the central and eastern states of the United States are expected to have a comfortable and warm October with temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26-27 Celsius). The same temperature is expected in New York on Tuesday.

But that is not all. In the Atlantic Ocean, another spontaneous phenomenon is born, which was given the name Leslie. As a rule, in early October, the Atlantic Ocean basin becomes quieter, reducing the number of tropical storms and hurricanes. But Leslie seems to be the exception to the rule.

23 September meteorologists AccuWeather began to track the subtropical phenomenon that ultimately formed Leslie. September 29 Leslie officially called the tropical storm. During this time, Leslie's storm almost did not move, remaining in the waters of the Atlantic. Probably the same will happen in the first week of October. This storm can be a hurricane by mid-week, says meteorologist Steve Travis.

As it moves southward, Leslie will be in a zone of warm water, which will help the storm to gather strength. It is expected that this storm will remain in the open waters of the Atlantic, without creating a threat to any ground objects. But due to the strong waves of the ocean, the phenomenon can bring torrential rains and reverse currents to Bermuda.

Leslie is the twelfth natural phenomenon that appeared in the Atlantic Basin in the 2018 season and received a name. It may be some time before the next storm hits. Over the next week, several tropical disturbances will move along the Atlantic towards the Caribbean Sea, but the most they will bring is more rain to the region. Forecasters do not predict any serious events. If this tropical disturbance develops into a tropical storm, it will be named Michael.
