Californians will receive checks worth about $ 1000: the state compensates residents for inflation

Millions of California taxpayers will receive inflation compensation after lawmakers reach an agreement on the 2022-2023 budget. The agreement also suspends the state sales tax on diesel fuel. SFGate.

"A key element of the agreement is a $17 billion inflation-reduction package that will offer tax refunds to millions of working Californians," Gov. Gavin Newsom, Senate President Tony Atkins, and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon said in a joint statement June 26 evening.

The program includes direct payments to 23 million Californians of up to $1050. Payments will be made through direct refunds of deposits or debit cards to tax declarers by the end of October, Newsom's administration said. The State Franchise Tax Board estimates that they will all be released by the end of 2022 or early next year.

Here's how direct payouts will workA: Taxpayers will receive $350, $250, or $200 depending on their income level, with an additional payment of the same amount if they have at least one dependent.

Those who file individual income tax returns and earn less than $75 will receive $000.

Joint applicants with income less than $150 will receive $000. If they have at least one dependent, they will receive an additional $700.

So, for example, this means that a married couple making $100 a year with one child would receive $000.

About 82% of the beneficiaries of the state have this level of income.

Those who file individual income tax returns and earn between $75 and $001 will receive $125.

Joint applicants with income between $150 and $001 will receive $250. If they have at least one dependent, they will receive an additional $000.

About 12% of beneficiaries are at this level.

Those who file individual income tax returns and earn between $125 and $001 will receive $250.

Joint applicants who earn between $250 and $001 will receive $500. If they have at least one dependent, they will receive an additional $000.

About 6% of beneficiaries are at this level.

Fuel, rent and healthcare

Beginning Oct. 1, the state will suspend the diesel sales tax, now at 23 cents per gallon, for 12 months.

"The state will provide local governments with an estimated $439 million in revenue equivalent to ensure local transportation funding projects are not impacted," Treasury's Palmer said.

The Sunday deal also includes additional funding to help people pay their rent and utility bills.

The announcement from the governor and legislature leaders also said that California "will be the first state to provide universal health care," but did not provide details. And this structure will provide more than $200 million in additional funding for reproductive health services.

"This budget builds on our unprecedented commitment to transforming the resources available in our state, from years of $47 billion in infrastructure and transportation to education and healthcare, showing the nation what a true life protection program looks like," the joint statement said.

The deal comes at a time when Californians are grappling with rising gas prices. On June 26, a gallon of regular gasoline in the state cost $6,321. Although this is not as much as the record of $6,438, which was set on June 14th. And diesel prices are even higher at $6,973.
