How a programmer could six years lazy at work in California

American programmer, hiding under the pseudonym FiletOFish1066, рассказал on Reddit the story of his career. He "worked" for six years, doing nothing in the office, but was eventually exposed and fired. After the media drew attention to the post, FiletOFish1066 deleted the post and his account, but that doesn’t make the story any worse.

Seven years ago, the author of the publication graduated from college and got a job in a startup in California. What is this company, he did not say. But he clarified that today it is a well-known project, where it is not easy to get a job.

In his company, FiletOFish1066 was engaged in software testing, but I had to program a little. But it does not matter: in the first eight months of his career, he automated his work in such a way that he could do almost nothing further. And the next six years, he did just that.

According to the “hero,” he came to work every day, played MMORPGs, surfed Reddit, went to the gym, and that’s it. For six years, according to the programmer, he worked 50 hours - and no one cared, because the necessary tests were passed as required. FiletOFish1066 had no friends at work, so he hardly talked to anyone - except for his boss and the developers whose programs he tested.

But in the end, the idle guy was exposed. How exactly - he does not know, but he thinks that the staff of the IT department analyzed his work in recent years and complained to the boss. FiletOFish1066 was fired, paying compensation in the amount of three monthly salaries.

The author claims that he received an average of 95 thousand dollars a year and in six years he managed to save 200 thousand dollars: he lives with his parents and leads a modest lifestyle. But his carefree life had a negative side: in six years of idleness FiletOFish1066 completely forgot how to program.

Commentators on Reddit returned to the author of the publication faith in themselves. He later announced that he intended to end his addiction to MMORPG and beer, sit down for programming lessons and get a new job. Perhaps deleting an account on Reddit has also become part of a plan for his return to the class of working people.
