How to help pets in the heat:

• if possible, install air conditioning in the room where the animal is located all day;
• control wide open windows - they are especially dangerous for cats, but they also pose a threat to dogs;
• provide the animal with constant access to a sufficient amount of drinking;
• wet the pet's forehead, nose, water with the head (do not water it in any way, but moisten it), put a damp cloth on the forehead;
• Take your dog for a walk in the morning and evening, when the heat subsides, if possible avoid day walks in the sun.

What not to do with a pet in the heat:

• be careful with the air conditioner - adjust it so that you do not catch a cold (this concerns not only the temperature, but also the strength and direction of the air stream);
• Do not leave windows wide open in your absence;
• Do not short-cut dogs that are not allowed by the exterior rules: psychological trauma may be serious, and the use is doubtful (dog hair with undercoat works like a cotton robe or thermos, stabilizing the body temperature);
• do not allow dogs to swim in dubious, stagnant ponds;
• do not overcool the dogs with constant watering - pneumonia is possible in the heat;
• do not give your pet medications unless they are prescribed by a veterinarian - they can “blur” the symptoms of the disease when you go to the doctor further, which will prevent you from making a correct diagnosis, writes “RIA News«.

Safety rules for pet owners on trips and outside the city:

• If you are driving a car and you need to stop, never leave the animal in a locked car in the heat. If there is simply no other way out, then your absence should be very brief (5-10 minutes), and the car should stand in dense shadow with windows ajar, advises Boston Magazine;

• do not allow the dog to swim in standing water, it is better to pour a little of the hose (just do not overcool!) or wipe with a damp cloth;
• do not take the dog with you to the beach - it is extremely difficult to control the time of its stay in the sun;

Heat, temperature drops and excessive overheating are very dangerous for animals. The most dangerous thing is that they cannot verbally express their state and well-being, so you may not realize that your pet needs help.

Signs by which it can be determined that the animal is suffering from heat or received heat stroke:

• sluggish and very passive behavior;
• breathing becomes heavier, can whine;
• copious salivation;
• lack of appetite and rejection of even your favorite delicacy;
• blurred look;
• dry and hot nose;
• diarrhea, vomiting, convulsions.

If you notice one or more of these symptoms, you need to take the first steps to help your pet. Remove the collar or muzzle, do not forget - animals give off heat through their tongue. If you don't allow him to breathe, his body temperature will only get higher. Immediately take the animal to a cool place. If possible, wrap it in a damp cloth, cloth, or anything to relieve hot flashes. At the same time, avoid sudden changes in temperature. The transition should be gradual - hot, warm, cool.

Immediately after the heat stroke, do not allow to drink cold water, as this will lead to cardiac arrest. It is better to slightly moisten the muzzle and let's drink cool water in small sips, trying to control it.
