How we will drink: Starbucks refused plastic straws and released new glasses
On Monday, Starbucks announced that, before 2020, it would completely abandon the use of plastic straw tubing in all company-run and licensed establishments around the world. The decision of the company was motivated by the fact that disposable plastic products pose an environmental threat to the oceans.

It is expected that in a specified time more than 1 billion plastic straws per year will be taken out of use. The Daily Mail. As an alternative, Starbucks will offer straw-free cups or straws made from more environmentally friendly materials and introduce them to more than 28 locations worldwide.
“This is an important milestone for our partners and customers in achieving our global commitment to sustainable coffee served to our customers in a more sustainable way,” Kevin Johnson, president and CEO of Starbucks, said in a statement on the company's website.

The strawless lid is already used in more than 8000 Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada for certain drinks, including Starbucks Draft Nitro and Cold Foam. The innovation is being tested for the same drinks in China, Thailand, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam.
Straws made from alternative materials - paper or biodegradable plastic - will be available for some drinks (for example, Frappuccino) at the request of customers who still need a straw.

Starbucks reports that cold drinks, which previously usually required the use of a straw, make up 50% of all the company's sold drinks. Five years ago, this figure reached 37%.
Starbucks will be the largest food and beverage company in the world to implement such a policy.
