How children get to know and make friends online. Infographics
PewResearchCenter published a large-scale study of teenagers' communication and friendships in the modern world (for 2014 - 2015). We are talking about American children from 13 to 17 years old, who sometimes behave very unpredictably online. For example, girls unexpectedly often block friends, while boys make friends through video games.
They make friends online
More than half of the teenagers made at least one online friend, and almost a third met more than five friends there.
Girls are gamers too, and they meet there
Online friends make social networks or video games. Both are more common than they seem.
Two out of three boys (72%) aged 13-17 play video games. There are fewer gamers among girls, but still more than half (59%).
Also, two out of three (72%) teenagers spend time with social media friends, but only one in five does it every day.
Meeting has not been canceled
Only one-fifth (20%) of teenagers meet their friends they met online, outside the Internet..
Children still communicate not only through the screens of computers and smartphones - as many as 83% of teenagers spend time with their best friend at school, 58% at someone’s home and 55% online.
But there are already many feelings in social networks.
70% adolescents admit that they feel better if they share their experiences with friends online.
At the same time, the overwhelming number of teenagers (88%) believe that others are spreading too much personal information for everyone to see.
And despite this, more than a third of teenagers publish photos and messages, which, according to their assumptions, will collect a large number of “likes”, and thereby make them more popular.
And they quarrel there
The majority (68%) of teenagers using social media quarreled there.
At the same time, the former friends of 63% of girls using social media or smartphones and less (53%) boys are blocked.
And on the mobile phone now do not call
About 55% of teenagers write sms friends daily. And only 13% use the phone to call friends.
42% of teenagers use mobile apps, like whatsapp for messaging.
