History repeats itself: TV channel 'Rain' stopped broadcasting in Russia and turned on 'Swan Lake'

The CEO and founder of the Russian TV channel Dozhd announced on March 3 that it was suspending the channel. This is due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Read more about this publication Meduza.

“There has never been such a difficult decision in our life. We have made a decision for ourselves that we are temporarily suspending the work of the TV channel. We need strength and time to exhale and understand how to work further. Therefore, if the law on fakes is adopted tomorrow, work will be practically impossible, ”she said in the latest Dozhd news release on YouTube.

“We really hope that we will return to the air and continue to work,” she said.

On March 1, the TV channel was blocked by the Russian authorities. The journalists were accused of disseminating false information about the Russian “special operation” in Ukraine. They were also accused of distributing materials calling for extremism.

Since 2010, Dozhd has been broadcasting constantly without interruption, even under pressure from the Russian authorities. The TV channel managed to survive a shutdown from major cable and satellite operators in 2014 and being declared a “foreign agent” in 2021.

But, unfortunately, this time they did not manage to survive completely. But the channel made its farewell unforgettable and, to a certain extent, significant.

After saying goodbye to the audience live, he began to broadcast a fragment of Swan Lake, a ballet that Soviet television channels continuously showed during the putsch in 1991, in a circle.
