Investor proposed California split into three states
Official documents have been filed with the California State Secretariat to divide the state into three separate states next year.
The plan is funded by a billionaire Bay area Tim Draper, who financed a similar proposal back in 2014 year. This plan failed.
A trilateral split will occur as follows: Northern California will include a bay area to the Oregon border, Southern California will begin in Fresno and will cover most of the southern state. New California will begin in Los Angeles County and will cover most coastal areas.
Draper says that because of the political and economic diversity of California, the state has become too difficult to manage.
To put the issue to a vote next year, you need to dial 586 000 signatures in petitions. If this happens, congressional permission will be required to replace California with three states.
Opponents say this plan will create havoc.
