Ukrainian immigrant accused of death of seven bikers in the US

On Tuesday, 23-year-old Vladimir Zhukovsky did not plead guilty to seven counts of murder on negligence.

According to the investigation, Zhukovsky was driving a Dodge pickup truck, to which a cargo platform was attached, when on Friday evening, 21 June, he collided with motorcyclists in the area of ​​the city of Randolph (New Hampshire). He drove erratically and crossed the dividing line, according to the case file.

One of those injured in the accident said that most of the motorcycles that were driving him had been pulled down. The accident claimed the lives of seven bikers.

Zhukovsky was arrested on the morning of June 22 at his home in Massachusetts and handed over to the authorities of New Hampshire after appearing in court on the same day.

Working as a driver for a transport company, Zhukovsky was repeatedly arrested for violating traffic rules. 25 June judge extended his preliminary conclusion, noting that the history of his violations suggests that he represents a potential danger to the public and himself.

However, it is assumed that the incident could have been avoided if the Massachusetts department of vehicles responded promptly to information from other states.

The head of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Stephanie Pollack, said that the state’s vehicle registry did not take action based on information about Zhukovsky’s arrest for drunk driving provided by the Connecticut Vehicle Department.

Pollak said that the arrest was supposed to lead to depriving a man of the right to drive a commercial vehicle, but the Massachusetts department of vehicles did not take appropriate measures.

Connecticut prosecutors reported that Zhukovsky was arrested on May 11 in the parking lot of a Walmart supermarket in East Windsor after failing a sobriety test. Zhukovsky’s lawyer in this case, John O'Brien, said that his client denied the fact of intoxication and would challenge the charge.

Police in Texas reported that Zhukovsky also ran into a wagon in a suburb of Houston earlier this month. Zhukovsky told the police that he had been cut, which caused him to lose control of the car. He was not charged.

According to official documents, Zhukovsky was also arrested for drunk driving on 2013 in Westfield, Massachusetts. He was given a trial period of one year, and his driver’s license was suspended for 210 days.

According to the father of Zhukovsky, his son is a citizen of Ukraine and the holder of a green card. The family has been living in the USA for 13 years.

The trial file on Zhukovsky Jr. contains a letter dated 23 of June from an officer of the Immigration and Customs Service dealing with deportation issues, in which he asks for details of his conviction in the drug case in 2017.

According to the Federal Department of Road Safety, Westfield Transport, which Zhukovsky worked during a collision with motorcyclists, has been convicted of numerous violations over the past two years.
