Immigration authorities will release illegal migrants to 2000 due to lack of space

According to the ABC-TV affiliate in Texas, immigration officials plan to release illegal immigrants from 23 at the weekend of March 24 in March.

Mass release of immigrants is usually carried out in cases where border patrol agents are struggling to cope with hundreds of new migrants waiting along the border and ready to surrender and ask for political asylum, reports Fox News with reference to an unnamed border patrol officer.

Due to the large influx of released migrants, the El Paso Police Department is asking for volunteer help: “Urgent. Volunteers are needed today and tomorrow to help local NGOs with the influx of migrants released these days,” the message said.

Churches in Texas and other states along the border provide assistance in providing temporary shelter and other services to immigrants who are released until they receive asylum in the United States or make other decisions on their affairs.

Ruben García, executive director of a shelter in El Paso where immigrants are temporarily housed, expressed concern that his organization could not meet the demands of people arriving at the border in large numbers. He sought help in locating people to local churches.

“If each of these religious communities committed to accepting 20 refugees per week, just per week, that would allow us to accept 8 refugees per week,” Garcia said.

From December 21 to March 20, ICE released more than 100 000 people in the United States, according to the San Diego branch of Fox.

In March, a US border patrol released entire families with notifications about the need to appear in court. News media have noted that the agency has not done so since 1998 of the year. Border patrols usually refer migrant asylum seekers to ICE employees who handle their applications.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the migrants' release does not mean a return to the controversial "catch and release" policies adopted earlier. In United States immigration enforcement, the term "catch and release" refers to the practice of releasing a migrant into the community while he or she awaits a hearing in immigration court, as an alternative to holding them in detention, according to Wikipedia.
