Long Island Immigration Raids: Ukrainians are among those arrested
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers (ICE) arrested 6 illegal immigrants, including Ukrainian citizens, during an 25-day operation in Long Island.
24 detainees had previously been convicted of violating the rules for operating cars, in particular for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, one of them has no other violations, except for illegal stay in the US, says the official website ICE.
All detainees are in detention centers for illegal immigrants pending the completion of trials for their deportation. Those illegal immigrants, for which there is already a decision on deportation, or they have repeatedly violated US immigration laws, will be expelled from the country immediately.
According to ICE, the operation specifically targeted illegal aliens who had been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs because such people “pose a threat to public safety given the high number of motor vehicle crashes and accidents that occur due to drunk drivers.” "
Among those arrested are citizens of Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Ukraine.
