HP recalls laptop batteries due to the risk of fire: list of models

Some HP (Hewlett-Packard) laptops still ignite spontaneously due to faulty batteries, which can cause fires and burns, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to CNET and Tom's Hardware, the latest HP battery recall was first initiated in January 2018, and then expanded in January 2019. The latest data did not hit the news headlines on time, because in the US the government stopped working temporarily and the Commission could not disclose the information, writes The Verge.

According to the CPSC, “HP received eight new battery reports in the United States: overheating, reflow or charring, including one minor injury report and two property damage totaling $ 1100.”

Here is a complete list of models, including some HP laptops, sold in April 2015 of the year and in December last year.

Please note that the company recalls the batteries (accumulators), not the laptops themselves.

The company recalls lithium-ion batteries for HP commercial laptops, as well as for mobile workstations sold to businesses and organizations.

Batteries were supplied or sold as accessories for laptops:

• HP ProBook (64x G2 and G3 Series, 65x G2 and G3 Series, 4xx G4 Series),
• HPx360 (310 G2),
• HP Pavilion x360 (11 inch laptop),
• HP 11 Notebook PC
• HP ZBook mobile workstations (17 G3 and Studio G3).

Batteries were also sold as accessories or interchangeable accessories for:

• HP ZBook Studio G4 Mobile Workstation
• HP ProBook 4xx G5 Series,
• HP ENVY 15,
• HP Mobile Thin Clients (mt21, mt22 and mt31) or for any of the products listed above.

Problems with rechargeable batteries have long been plagued by HP laptops: since 2016, the total annual reviews have already touched 250 000 units of production. It is not entirely clear what the main problem is. HP has Web site, created to help customers find out if there is a defective battery in their computer, and go through the free replacement procedure.
