New York City Governor pardoned 7 illegal immigrants to save them from deportation

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo July 23 pardoned seven illegal immigrants to help them avoid deportation.

Illegal immigrants who committed minor criminal offenses, in particular petty theft and drug possession, fell under the pardon. Fox News.

“As President Trump and the federal government wage war on our immigrant communities, New York remains steadfast in our belief that our diversity is our greatest strength,” Cuomo said.

According to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE), when President Donald Trump came to power in 2017, he expanded the scope of this agency’s activities to include, among other things, the right to deport immigrants who were convicted or accused of committing any crime, as it was before.

Frank Barker's 43-year-old was one of the illegals who had been pardoned by Cuomo. He was convicted of possession of stolen property, narcotic substances, as well as identity theft.

Also pardoned were: 53-year-old José Rafael Cruz, who was convicted of selling narcotic substances; 53-year-old Liudames de la Cruz, who was convicted of attempting to sell drugs; 57-year-old Elpidio Rodriguez, who was convicted of possession of a narcotic substance and driving while intoxicated; 35, Tamar Samuda, who was convicted almost two decades ago for petty theft; 43-year-old Marino Soto, who was convicted of possession of a narcotic substance; and 41-year-old Carlos Suárez, who was convicted of petty theft.

Since their deportation was caused by charges of committing crimes, the pardon gives them a chance to avoid expulsion from the country.

Democrat Cuomo has to go through reelections this fall. His main rival from the Democratic Party called the actress Cynthia Nixon, who called for the abolition of ICE.

Lauren Hitt, a spokeswoman for Nixon, said that the pardon was the right step, but Nixon would do more to "end the deportation conveyor."

A candidate for governor of New York from the Republican Party, Mark Molinaro accused Cuomo of using pardons for political public relations.

“Everything Andrew Cuomo does is solely for his own political benefit, whether it is right, wrong or dangerous to the public,” Molinaro’s campaign said.

According to a press release, Cuomo pardoned the 34 man since taking office.
