Kazakh citizen detained in New York for fraud with the rental of housing
24 January New York police announced the arrest of 24-year-old Kazakh citizen living in Brooklyn, Mahabbat Abdualieva.

She was charged with several charges of petty theft and criminal forgery after she took money from people willing to rent apartments in New York, who they considered to be deposits for apartments, and then disappeared, writes CBS.
She carried out fraud in a pair with a man who is still at large.
The fraudulent scheme of Abdualiyeva began with an advertisement posted on social networks, it said about the apartment, which will soon be available for rent in a renovated house in East Elmhurst. The victim of this scheme was the mother of three children, who gave 2000 dollars to the fraudster.
“I don’t know why I did this, it’s so stupid of me,” said victim Felicia Campos.
She explained that the affordable apartment and short term settlement made her feel pressured. She understood that she must either leave a deposit or lose a great deal.
Police said she is not the only one who bought into the scam scheme. From mid-July to late December 2018, the suspect man took deposits at least from 11 victimsusing at least 8 aliases.
At the moment it is unclear how fraudsters managed to gain access to buildings and apartments.
