'I was ready to die': John F. Kennedy's great-nephew fought in Ukraine against the Russians

The great-nephew of the 35th US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy visited Ukraine during the war. Conor Kennedy is the grandson of the famous American politician, US Attorney General Robert Francis Kennedy (RFC), the younger brother of John F. Kennedy. He wrote about this on his Instagram page.

Conor said that he fought in Ukraine, although he had no military experience, and “was ready to die” there, but only told one person his real name.

In an Instagram post, the 28-year-old said he was "spurred" to sign up for the Ukrainian International Legion, a branch of foreign volunteers, earlier this year.

He did not specify when exactly he fought or how long he was there, but said that he "enjoyed being a soldier" even more than he could have imagined.

“I wanted to help. When I heard about the Ukrainian International Legion, I knew that I would be there. The next day I went to the embassy to sign up, - we read in the post. “I told one person here where I was and told one person there my real name. I didn't want my family or friends to worry, and more than that, I didn't want to be treated differently. When I came to Ukraine, I had no military experience. I wasn't a good shooter, but I could carry heavy objects and learned quickly. I was ready to die there."

The Ukrainian International Legion is considered a division of the Ukrainian troops, in which foreign combat-ready volunteers were invited from abroad to participate in the war, regardless of their military past or without it, writes Daily Mail.

In April, the legion changed its rules and began to accept only those with combat experience.

Corporal Damien Magru, spokesman for the legion, said at the time: “We realized that training people with no experience drains a lot of resources. We are grateful for the support, but people without combat experience are more of a hindrance than a help."

Conor admitted that he "wasn't a good shot" but claims he was sent to the northeast front.

“Soon they agreed to send me to the northeastern front. It's scary," Conor writes.

It's unclear why or when he returned to the US, but the post cryptically says, "My friends in Ukraine know why I had to return home."

Conor, among other things, called on his followers to join Ukraine's fight, saying: "This war will determine the fate of democracy in this century."

Conor's parents are Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mary Richardson Kennedy, who committed suicide in 2012 at their home in Bedford, New York.

Kira, his sister, was among those who confirmed Conor's trip to Ukraine. She wrote under the post: "I love you big brother."

His girlfriend, Brazilian singer Julia Be, also confirmed Conor's participation in the war.

“You are the bravest person I have ever known, my love. Being away from you and worrying all these months has been incredibly hard, but we kept our faith to the end and I just want to tell you once again how proud I am of you, ”she wrote.

His father, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has not yet commented.

He is a staunch opponent of vaccines, in particular COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccination mandates. For much of the pandemic period, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. opposed them.
