Cities where people with $ 100k income are 'poor'

An income of $ 100 thousand per year may not be enough for a comfortable life, in some US cities. Online edition CNBC compiled a list of US cities 10, where you can earn a six-figure sum per year and still feel yourself poor.

For the analysis, data on credit card spending was used, as well as data on the Housing Accessibility Index of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Based on this information, a calculation was made of the basic living expenses for a family in major US cities in 100. After that, the researchers analyzed the difference between income and expenditure to determine whether 100 will be enough thousands per year for a comfortable family life in each of the cities.

The analysis found that in many cities in America, families that consist of three people with a total income of $ 100 thousand per year, at the end of each month after paying all the bills barely make ends meet. The analysis was based on the assumption that the couple deposits $ 500 per month on a savings account and pays $ 393 per month as a student loan debt (average payment according to the Federal Reserve). All other costs varied by location.

In 7 from 10 cities that are in the top, the average family spends more than $ 100 thousand per year on basic expenses. As a result, they have to rely on credit cards to cover everyday expenses.
