From builder to scientist: industries most likely to be immigrant to the United States
According to the latest estimates and data from the US Department of Labor, 28,2 million people, or 17,4% of America’s workforce, are people born abroad, including immigrants. Where do these millions of people work?
Edition CBS News versed in which professions most likely to be occupied by people of foreign origin, and which ones the least.
22. Right
In 2018, 0,6% of workers born abroad worked in the legal field: among them lawyers, judges and court clerks.
21. Rapid response services
About 0,9% of workers born abroad worked as security guards, police, firefighters or animal control workers.
20. Community and social services
About 0,9% of workers of foreign origin worked as social workers, consultants or members of the clergy.
19. Scientists
According to estimates, 1,2% of foreign workers were engaged in such scientific disciplines as biology, physics, chemistry and economics.
18. Athletes, Artists, and Artists
In 2018, 1,4% of workers of foreign origin worked in the fields of art, entertainment, sports and the media.
17. Farmers, Fishermen and Foresters
In 2018, 1,6% of foreigners were engaged in agriculture, fishing, and forestry. This category includes livestock breeders, lumberjacks and hunters.
16. Architects and engineers
An estimated 2,2% of foreigners worked in architecture and engineering.

Approximately 2,7% of immigrants worked in the field of medicine, for example, as a nurse or medical assistant.

An estimated 3,7% of workers born abroad worked in the business and finance sectors, for example, as auditors, tax inspectors, and real estate appraisers.

4,8% of foreigners reportedly worked in the service and care sector. Including personal trainers, childcare workers, and hairdressers.
10. Programmers and Maths
An estimated 5,1% of foreigners worked in the computer and mathematical fields. Among them are web developers, programmers and extras.

It was reported that 5,4% of workers born abroad worked in the healthcare field as doctors, paramedics, dentists, therapists and pharmacists.

About 6,7% of foreigners worked in the field of catering as cooks, waiters, bartenders, dishwashers, barista and chefs.
7. Administrative staff
About 7,2% of workers born abroad worked in office services, including cashiers, postmen, registrars, and accountants.
6. Production worker
About 7,4% of foreign workers worked in production as meat debris, repaired shoes, were tailors, carpenters, or bakers.
5. Transport Services
It is estimated that 7,6% of workers born abroad worked as pilots, flight attendants, air traffic controllers, railroad workers, and taxi drivers.
4. Sales
7,7% of foreigners were engaged in sales, including cashiers, travel agents and telemarketers.
3. Service staff
About 8,2% of foreign workers worked in the field of maintenance, which includes maids, janitors and landscapers.
2. Management
About 8,5% of foreigners worked in the field of management (management is also included in this area).

About 9,5% of foreign workers were employed in construction jobs, including electricians, roofers and carpenters.
