The film, which was filmed in Kyiv, won the 'Golden Globe'

The Indian film RRR, one of the most striking scenes of which was filmed on the territory of the Mariinsky Palace in Kyiv, won the Golden Globe for best original song, reports with the BBC.

The Golden Globe is an American award that has been awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association since 1944 for work in films and television films. The Golden Globe Awards are awarded each January based on voting by approximately 90 international journalists based in Hollywood. In the American film industry it is considered the second most prestigious award after the Oscar.

It is to the song Naatu Naatu (in Hindi Naacho Naacho - “Dance, dance”) that the main characters - Indian actors and dancers N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan Tej - dance in a scene filmed in the center of Kyiv.

“This is the song from the movie that children and adults are dancing to together now. This song has captured the hearts and minds of film lovers,” writes BBC Hindi.

The author of the music for the song is the famous Indian composer M.M. Keeravani, and the performers were singers Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. MM. Keeravani said that he asked the songwriter K.S. Chandrabose: “The song should be such that both the lead actors create admiration and enthusiasm for their dancing.”

The RRR film in Telugu, one of the 22 official languages ​​of India, has been filmed for several years, and the scene in Kyiv was filmed in August 2021. It was released in March 2022 and is available to watch on Netflix.

Kyiv was chosen for filming because of the pandemic - due to the spread of a new strain of coronavirus, the British actors involved in the filming could not get to India, and the Indian film crew could not go to the countries of the European Union. And to shoot some scenes, they chose Ukraine, in particular Kyiv and Mezhyhirya.

The founder of the Ukrainian film company 435 Films, Anna Palenchuk, told The Viilage Ukraine that the director of the film, S. S. Rajamolli, liked the Mariinsky Palace.

“Of course, they had the opportunity to build such a set in India. But when Rajamolli saw the Mariinsky Palace, he said that this was exactly the building he imagined for this scene,” Palenchuk said.

Permission was obtained from the Office of the President of Ukraine.

“The President is very committed to the development of the film industry, and this is also important, given cooperation with India, a country that is very important for us from a political, economic, and tourism point of view. I told who exactly would be directing, that this was a film by the most famous Indian director, who can be called the Indian Steven Spielberg,” Palenchuk explained.

Ukrainian choreographers Elena Shoptenko and Maxim Leonov also took part in staging the film's dance scenes in Kyiv.

Palenchuk hopes that RRR will be shown on the big screen in Kyiv with the participation of director Rajamol after the victory.
Leading film publication Rolling Stones called RRR "the best and most revolutionary blockbuster" of 2022.

“If any film ever deserved to be seen on the big screen, this is it,” writes film reviewer David Fear.

RRR is considered the most expensive film in the history of Indian cinema. It partly reflects the historical events of the struggle of Indians for independence from the British Empire in the 1920s, the story of two legendary revolutionaries.

RRR was among the Golden Globe nominees for Best Non-English Language Film, but the award went to Argentinean film Argentina 1985.
