The European Union recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism

The European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. 494 deputies voted for the document, only 58 voted against, and 44 abstained. Voice of America.

The deputies said they were preparing the ground for bringing President Vladimir Putin and his government to an international tribunal.

“Regular attacks and atrocities committed by the Russian Federation against the civilian population of Ukraine, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and other serious violations of international humanitarian law amount to acts of terror against the population of Ukraine and constitute war crimes,” the text of the document says.
Russia is declared a country that uses the methods of terrorism during the war.

Members of the European Union called for the development of new legislation that would allow entire states to be placed on the list of terrorists.

At the moment, only organizations and individuals can be added to the EU terrorist list.

The deputies called on the EU countries to organize support for the creation of a special tribunal for Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Before the vote, it was noted that the document should be a step in the prosecution of Russian President Putin and his government.

The resolution does not oblige European countries to do anything and has a symbolic meaning.
