FBI monitors potential terrorists in the US for 48

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducts round-the-clock surveillance of potential terrorists on American soil. At least 48 people suspected of having links with the Islamic State terrorist group are under the surveillance of the intelligence service, the TV channel reports. Fox News.

According to American authorities, these people pose the most serious danger. According to the TV channel, surveillance of the suspects is carried out by special squads of the FBI - the so-called mobile surveillance teams (MST), which are among the elite units of the department.

Such groups are usually involved in investigations related to the terrorist threat, espionage or the activities of particularly dangerous criminal groups, as well as to eliminate terrorists.

According to Fox News, the MST units were involved in monitoring the 26-year-old Osama Abdullah Rahim, who was suspected of planning attacks against law enforcement officers. He was shot dead in Boston, Massachusetts in June of this year by an FBI agent. The reason was that the interrogated attempted to attack the agent with a knife. A similar incident happened in 2013 year: then during an interrogation by an FBI agent perished Chechen Ibrahim Todashev.

In total, to date, American law enforcement agencies and special agencies monitored about a thousand people in the United States who could be affected by the IG. And 48 of them represent, in the opinion of the authorities, the most serious danger.

A member of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Republican Dan Coates, confirmed that intelligence agencies are monitoring a large number of people, and said that surveillance requires “huge human resources and finances.” It, according to him, is conducted “24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
