Jill Biden unexpectedly visited Ukraine and met Zelensky's wife

The first ladies of the United States and Ukraine, Jill Biden and Olena Zelenska, met in Uzhgorod, Zakarpattia region. The visit of the wife of the American president was dedicated to Mother's Day, which is celebrated on May 8, reports apostrophe.

Jill Biden said she wanted to "show that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine," adding that the brutal war, now in its third month, must be stopped.

Elena Zelenskaya called the US First Lady's visit to Ukraine during the war a “brave act.”

She added that the date of the visit—Mother’s Day, which is celebrated in both Ukraine and the United States—was symbolic.

“We feel your love and support on such an important day,” Zelenskaya said.

It is noted that in Uzhgorod, the first ladies visited the point where Ukrainian settlers settled.

“Jill Biden and Elena Zelenskaya visited a school in Uzhgorod, where internally displaced persons from regions of Ukraine where fighting is taking place were resettled. First Lady Biden's visit is a demonstration of support for Ukraine from senior US officials. In addition to visiting Uzhgorod, the trip includes stops in the Slovak cities of Bratislava, Kosice and Vishne Nemecke,” the press service reported.

It is noteworthy that this visit was not officially announced by the authorities.

“For obvious reasons, the visit to Uzhgorod was not announced and was kept as secret as possible and was closed to the media. Only the White House press service was present at the meeting,” the Regional State Administration added.

Now the first lady of the United States has already left Ukraine.
