Two Ukrainians convicted in the US for selling counterfeit drugs for cancer and hepatitis
Two Ukrainian citizens were convicted of trafficking and smuggling counterfeit drugs for cancer and hepatitis into the United States. This is stated on the site US Department of Justice.
Maxim Nenadov, 36, was the owner of the Ukrainian company Healthy Nation. He, his accomplice and employee, 34-year-old Vladimir Nikolaenko, pleaded guilty in July 2020 to both illegal circulation and smuggling of counterfeit drugs into the United States, as well as conspiracy to this end. Nenadov also pleaded guilty to the distribution of drugs in the United States under the wrong brand.
Nenadova and Nikolayenko were sentenced to 71 and 33 months in prison, respectively. Each accused is expected to face expulsion procedures after being imprisoned.

“The defendants tried to cash in on other people's illnesses by selling false hopes, in particular fake medicines without an active ingredient. They risked the health of their patients, ”said Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas McQuaid of the Justice Department's Criminal Division. "This prosecution makes it clear that we will prosecute those who ignore the risks to patients by smuggling counterfeit drugs into the United States."

"Selling illegal prescription drugs on the US market puts consumers at risk, but this is especially reprehensible when drugs are intended for use by particularly vulnerable populations such as cancer patients," said Commissioner Charles Grinstead of the Department of Health. "We will continue to investigate and prosecute those who sell illegal prescription drugs, even though they know they could endanger the health of patients."
“We work tirelessly with our federal partners and private sector stakeholders to prevent counterfeit pharmaceuticals from entering the US market,” said Special Agent Mark Dawson of the National Security Investigations Division (HSI). "Today's verdict is another example of our tireless efforts to ensure that consumers receive the life-saving pharmaceuticals they need to treat their ailments."
Nenadova and Nikolaenko arrested in April 2019 of the year after they arrived in the US from Ukraine to discuss the sale of future illegal shipments.
