Every year on the eve of Orthodox Easter, the Holy Fire descends in the cuvuklia - the chapel over the burial place of Jesus Christ - during the prayer of the Jerusalem Patriarch.
After that, the patriarch hands it over to the believers who gather in the temple. This fire symbolizes the miraculous light of the Resurrection of Christ.
Despite the quarantine, the Israeli authorities allowed planes from 11 countries - Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Cyprus, Moldova, Romania, Kazakhstan and Russia - to arrive for fire.
Already on Saturday evening, May 2, the Holy Fire will be delivered to Ukraine.
In the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, they said that after the festive service, parishioners will be able to take a piece of the Holy Fire home in the icon lamps.

However, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine urged believers to observe the established restrictions on social distance, not to hallow cakes with "families", and recommends that older people refrain from participating in festive services in churches.
In addition, the department urged churches to conduct services, most of them online.
