“I am deeply saddened to declare a Belgian a victim in Manhattan,” he tweeted. “I express my condolences to the family and friends.”

Reinders told Belga that the victim was “a woman from Rowles in western Flanders, who was in town with her sister and her mother.”

Argentines who died were identified on Twitter as Hernán Diego Mendoza, Diego Enrique Angelini, Alejandro Damian Pagiucco, Ariel Early and Hernán Ferruki.

The president also said he had ordered a further tightening of a "robust screening program" for immigrants entering the country, but did not go into detail.

Trump first announced his intention to implement a “hard screening” of immigrants during the presidential campaign last August. “We know that the purpose of this action was to break our spirit,” the mayor said. “But we also know that New Yorkers are strong, they are resilient, and our spirit will never be broken by an act of violence designed to intimidate us.”

What is known about the suspect?

The New York police only reported the age of the attacker - he is 29 years old.

However, journalists call the name of this person: Saifullo Saipov, who allegedly resided in Tampa, Florida, and Paterson, New Jersey.

He came to the US from Uzbekistan in 2010, and, apparently, lived in the country legally.

The company Uber confirmed that he worked for them.

Newspaper New York Times Meanwhile, he reports with reference to three government officials that Saipov has already come to the attention of the federal authorities in connection with an investigation unrelated to the attack on Manhattan.

Police records show that last year Saipova was arrested in Missouri in connection with a traffic fine.

CNN and other American media reported that Saipov left a note saying he carried out the attack on behalf of the Islamic State group.

Uzbek Islamic activist and blogger living in the US Mirrahmat Muminov told Air forcethat Saipov began to adhere to radical views after moving to the United States. He believes that the crucial role in the radicalization of Saipov was played by extremist materials, which he found on the Internet.

Muminov met with Saipov when he just moved to the United States.

“He was not well educated and did not know the Koran well. Then he seemed like an ordinary normal person,” says the blogger.

According to Muminov, Saipov was depressed and felt separated from his community. And after I could not get a job in a taxi, I got angry.

“Because of his radical views, he often fought with other Uzbeks and moved to Florida. Since then I have lost contact with him,” said Muminov.
