The duration of the trip (absence in the USA) will be counted from the moment of the departure of the permanent resident abroad and until the time when he pays the contributions provided for in the I-131A form.

Applying for a transport document

In order to file a Form I-xnumxa a permanent resident must pay the required fees online, and then contact the US embassy or consulate.

They usually issue shipping documents within 2 weeks. A permanent resident must provide these documents when boarding an aircraft or a ship instead of a visa, a lost green card or permission to re-enter.

Transport documents are proof to the carrier that a person has the right to travel to the United States in order to apply for entry. They are in no way a guarantee that a person has the right to reside in the USA. After his arrival in the United States, the necessary checks will be carried out and a decision will be made to allow entry and stay in the United States.

Submission of the I-131A form does not give the migrant a new green card, to receive a new document of a permanent resident of the United States, you must fill out the form I-90 and pay all the fees for it.

Overdue Green Card Travelers

Migrants who are eligible for permanent residence in the United States do not always need to file an I-131A form if they need to return to the States after traveling with an expired green card. Before you do this, you should check the rules of transport carriers.

They usually require that the green card is not past due, but exceptions are possible:

• for carriers of expired green cards whose validity period has been 10 years;
• for carriers of green cards with a validity of 2 of the year who, after the expiration of this period, submitted the I-797 form or may provide a notification that they have submitted the I-751 or I-829 form in order to eliminate conditions affecting their permanent resident status. Notice of the submission of these forms, as a rule, extends the validity of the green card for 1 year.
