Grocery prices are rising: which stores are more profitable to buy everything you need

Grocery prices remain stubbornly high (and nearly double headline inflation) at 11,8% year on year, according to data released Jan. 12 by the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Writes about it CNN.

Weather and disease also have a strong effect on the prices of some products, and none has been higher than the price of eggs: it has risen by 59,9% year on year, a pace not seen since 1973, when prices were high. on fodder and shortages caused a sharp rise in the price of some agricultural products. Since the beginning of last year, deadly avian influenza has afflicted flocks of poultry, especially turkeys and laying hens. This was exacerbated by rising demand and higher costs.

Quinn has been running The Hungry Monkey Café in Newport, RI with his wife Kate since 2009. The menu relies heavily on eggs for most dishes, especially the 15-egg King Kong Omelette.

Although eggs and presumably every other ingredient have gone up in price over the past year, Quinn is trying to keep prices down on the menu.

“I'm trying to keep prices down without raising them,” he noted. “This makes business extremely difficult.” We're just trying to stay afloat and hope everything works out."

But there is good news on the horizon. The latest consumer price index shows that this rise in prices - in general - is at least growing at a slower pace than expected.

In December, the cost of food you cook at home increased by 0,2% compared to the previous month. This is the smallest monthly increase since March 2021.

Bailey said food price increases are expected to remain moderate.

“I suspect that over the next 12 months we will see an improvement,” he said.

• Butter and margarine: +35,3% per annum; +1,7% since November
• Salad: +24,9% per year; +4% since November
• Flour and ready-made flour mixes: +23,4% per year; -1% from November
• Canned fruits and vegetables: +18,4% per annum; +0,3% since November
• Bread: +15,9% per year; +0,2% since November
• Cereals and grain products: +15,6% per year; -0,3% since November
• Coffee: +14,3% per annum; +0% from November
• Milk: +12,5% ​​per year; -1% from November
• Chicken: +10,9% per year; -0,6% since November
• Baby food: +10,7% per year; -0,2% since November
• Fresh fruit: +3,4% per year; -1,9% since November
• Raw ground beef: +0,7% per annum; -0,1% since November
• Bacon and related products: -3,7% per annum; -2,9% since November
• Raw beef steaks: -5,4% p.a. +0,9% since November
