Moldovan immigrant businessman arrested at Boston airport for hooliganism

An immigrant from Moldova, a business owner and an influential person in Massachusetts, violated security rules and made his way into the cargo compartment of a passenger plane at Logan Airport in Boston, where he and the police escorted him with a scandal.

According to Massachusetts police, 31-year-old Sergiu Parfeni, who turned out to be an influential person from the city of Malden, was detained on Monday afternoon. Partheni went through the emergency exit at Logan Airport and climbed into the cargo compartment of the aircraft, writes CBS Boston. The man is accused of hooliganism and interference with the airport.

According to the police, Parfeni left the emergency door of Terminal C, got to the tracks and briefly got into the cargo compartment of the aircraft before JetBlue employees kicked him out. When the police arrested Parfeni, he told them: “You cannot tell me what to do, you need to let me go home,” the authorities said.

“The booking process had to be stopped several times due to the fact that Parfeni did not follow instructions and was inactive. He began screaming, singing and shouting profanities, and then threatened to cause bodily harm to himself and the police officers,” the report said.

The aircraft was detained for more than 30 minutes, while it was inspected by dogs trained to search for explosives, but nothing suspicious was found.

State police said there was no evidence that Partheni acted with "terrorist intent."

Who is Sergiu Parfeni

This incident shocked many residents of the city of Malden, writes Boston. Parfeni co-owns Bikeeny Caffe, an Eastern European-style café, with two business partners, and serves on the board of directors for MATV, Malden's public television station, and is involved with the Malden Chamber of Commerce and represented the organization at City Hall.

The one who answered the call of journalists in a cafe said that the institution does not comment on the arrest of Partheni and the business continues to make coffee. The institution opened in May last year, according to a press release from Mayor Malden Gary Christenson.

"I just can't believe it, it's completely out of character," said Ron Cox, MATV's chief executive. “It’s just amazing.”

Partheni started blog on a cafe website back in October and added posts in November. In the blog, he describes in detail his experience of owning a small business, as well as personal goals and thoughts. The last post was dated November 22, where Parfeni writes about his personal “core values”.

“Don’t let anyone tell you what you should do,” he wrote. “It’s a good idea to write down your core values, this will help you better understand why you do what you do.”

Partheni is expected to be released on bail. He should be tried in Boston in a week.
