Artillery, radar, armored vehicles: Ukrainian military learn to use NATO weapons

US military personnel in Germany began training Ukrainian fighters. They are being shown how to use important NATO weapons that will be supplied to Ukraine to defend against a Russian invasion. This was announced by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, writes with the BBC.

“These efforts build on the initial artillery training that Ukrainian forces have already received in the past, as well as radar and armor training that was recently announced as part of the security package,” Kirby said.

The US military is conducting exercises in Europe and Africa in coordination with Germany.

Previously, trainings were held in western Ukraine, but when the threat of a Russian invasion arose, American specialists were transferred to Germany, where they again began to work with the Ukrainians to "give the knowledge they need to protect their country."

“The reunion of members of the Florida National Guard with their Ukrainian counterparts was very emotional given the strong ties that formed while they lived and worked together before they temporarily parted ways in February,” a Pentagon spokesman said.

Trainings are conducted not only by the USA, but also by representatives of other countries. The day before, Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said that the Canadian military is teaching Ukrainians how to use M777 howitzers, which should also be handed over to Ukraine.

Kirby recalled that over the past eight years, the Ukrainian military has trained jointly with the NATO military, and praised the results of these exercises, noting that the Ukrainian troops have become more agile and efficient.

“They have better command and control than the Russians,” Kirby said. “They have the best initiative on the battlefield. They have a competent officer corps that is empowered to make tactical decisions on the battlefield. It didn't happen by chance."

Education is planned to be useful and constructive, but also as concise as possible, because Ukrainians "have no time for long-term education."

Kirby noted that the Ukrainian military, who are trained at the bases, have the necessary experience with artillery, and now they need to study the features of American systems. The same applies to working with radar systems.

According to the Pentagon, the trained Ukrainian military will return to their homeland to teach their brethren.

In recent days, it has become known that the allies will transfer to Ukraine a large number of high-tech weapons, including military artillery, armored vehicles, air defense systems, and so on.

The United States passed a law on lend-lease for Ukraine, which means in fact a simplified possibility of unlimited military assistance to Ukraine with weapons.

The transfer of heavy weapons to Ukraine was approved by the German Bundestag. Weapons are also being transferred by other allies - Poland, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and others.
