Arbitrator from Uzbekistan became a champion in judging matches of the world championships

Referee Ravshan Irmatov is the most famous Uzbek in the football world, five-time best referee in Asia, the best referee in the world in 2015 according to the Globe Soccer Awards, and the record holder for refereeing World Cup matches. By the end of June 2018, Ravshan Irmatov had accumulated 11 games as the chief referee in matches at the World Cup.

Ravshan Irmatov was born on August 9 of the year 1977 in Tashkent. Few people know that Irmatov began his career as a football player, but at 17, he was seriously injured, after which the doctors categorically forbade him to play, he said Present Tense. After recovery, Irmatov began working as a football coach.

An accident helped the former football player become a referee: one day the referee could not come to a game of children’s teams, and Ravshan was asked to replace him. International games Ravshan Irmatov began to judge only twenty-five. At first, he was entrusted with the first game of the World Championship 2010 of the year: the opening match between the teams of South Africa and Mexico. Then Ravshan became the youngest referee at the Championship and was immediately noted as the third referee in history, serving five games at one World Championship.

The press noted that Irmatov had proven himself highly in the championship, without making a single serious mistake, despite the workload. Ravshan professionally “reads” the game, he is a psychologically stable and decisive judge (Wikipedia).

In 2012, Irmatov judged three matches at the London Olympics.

The 2013 was one of the judges in the Brazilian Confederations Cup.

In 2014, the World Cup in Brazil judged four matches.

In 2017 in Russia, he acted as video assistant of the main judges of the Asian zone at the Confederations Cup.

In 2018, at the World Championships, he judged a match between the national teams of Argentina and Croatia, Spain and Morocco.

Irmatov has two higher educations - physical education and economics. Colleagues in refereeing said that it was Ravshan who was the first to go to the Asian Football Federation, went through all the necessary seminars, began to study English closely, and “paved” the way not only for himself, but also for other Uzbek referees (Soviet Sport).

Irmatov lives with his parents - he has become the son who, according to tradition, must stay with his mother and father in order to take care of them and provide for them in old age. Ravshan’s father, Sayfiddin Irmatov, a well-known football referee in the Uzbek SSR, who also refereed matches of the USSR Championship, also advised his son on a refereeing career and is proud of his achievements.

Ravshan Irmatov explains his success by the fact that despite the standard mistakes of the referee, which in each match may be two, three or four, major mistakes, due to which the team would leave the competition, he did not make. Irmatov emphasized how important the referee is to analyze his every slip, so as not to repeat it in the future.
