Apple may refuse standard headphone jack

According to the information that appeared in the Japanese blog Macotakara, Apple sources said the next version of the iPhone may not have the standard 3,5 mm audio headphone jack. Instead, there will be only a connector for charging Lightning, through which audio devices will also be connected. Apple will be the first smartphone maker to take this step.

The 3,5 mm audio jack (also called the mini-jack) is considered the standard in the world of portable devices. It was used in all versions of the iPod and iPhone. Rejecting it will lead to the fact that the vast majority of headphones and portable speakers cannot be connected to the iPhone-7.

Switching to connecting headphones through the Lightning port will make the iPhone-7 thinner. It should also be expected that Apple will release its own headphones, which will work through Lightning. This rumor looks especially plausible when you consider that not so long ago the company acquired the manufacturer of headphones Beats.

However, this will not be the first time Apple has tried to teach customers to use other types of connectors. The company was also criticized during the transition to the Lightning port in 2012, which replaced the usual 30-contact charging. Even earlier, in 1998, the company abandoned the floppy disk drive on the iMac, which also caused a storm of negativity.

At the moment, praise the headphones, working through Lightning, except perhaps the company Phillips, which not so long ago presented new models of the Fidelio line. However, MacRumours reports that Apple will not abandon users with standard headphones to their fate and will release a special adapter from Lightning to the 3,5-mm connector. Most likely, the market immediately floods and many cheaper adapters, fakes.

Despite the fact that this information passes under the heading "rumors", companies have already begun to respond to possible changes. For example, Vlad Tislenko, the creator of the Ukrainian start-up Concepter, which produces iBlazr flash for iPhone, commented on the rumor: “[This news] is the reason for the iBlazr 2 pivot and we refused the 3,5-mm jack. And when Apple bought the Beats, I already clearly understood that this transaction was for a reason. ”
