US Congressman admitted to alcoholism and refused to re-election
The American Republican congressman Thomas Garrett said on Monday that he would not be treated for alcoholism and would not be re-elected in November for a second term in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress.

“Everyone I am more or less intimately acquainted with knows that I am a good person, and I am an alcoholic,” he said in a released statement, which refers to TASS. “I will not seek re-election [to Congress]. I'm not dying. I am determined to start a new life."
Garrett's 46-year-old, conservative-minded, represented one of the counties of Virginia in the lower house of Congress. He has served in the army, working in the state attorney’s office and state legislature. He was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2016.
Interim congressional elections are scheduled for November 6, and all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 34 Senator will be re-elected.
According to estimates by CNN, before Garrett, 43, another Republican congressman, announced that they would not be re-elected this year. Their decisions, as the newspaper writes The Washington Post, stemming from “either perceived serious competition with Democrats or dissatisfaction with the policies” of President Donald Trump’s administration.
