US Congressman apologized for the video selfie taken in Auschwitz camera
Clay Higgins, a Republican congressman from Louisiana who filmed a selfie video near the gas chamber at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Auschwitz, apologized and deleted the video from social networks, writes “Voice of America«.
“I wanted to show respectful respect for those killed in Auschwitz and remind the world that evil exists, free countries must remember this and remain strong.”
Higgins commented on a video shot in front of railway tracks, mountains of shoes, left by killed prisoners, cameras and crematorium. Then he entered the gas chamber and described exactly how the people were killed. During the video, he never used the word Holocaust, which caused sharp criticism.
In his video, Clay Higgins also stated that "internal security must be put in order and why our military must be invincible."
On Twitter, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial showed a plaque near the entrance to the building, where visitors are asked to observe silence out of respect for those killed by the SS.
“Every person has the right to personal reflection. However, a sad silence must be observed inside the former gas chamber. This is not a stage,” Memorial said in a separate tweet.
From 1,2 to 1,5, a million people, most of whom are Jews, were killed by the Nazis at Auschwitz and its associated Birkenau camp. Only 239 people from 728, the first prisoners of Auschwitz-Birkenau, survived to the end of the war.
