American scientists have grown the human brain in the laboratory
Scientists in the United States first grew the human brain in the laboratory. An organoid grown from skin cells slightly larger than a pea, but functionally and structurally almost identical to the brain of a five-week human fetus. The rudimentary spinal cord and eyes leave the organoid.
As the scientists explain, proto-brain does not possess consciousness, and experiments on it will help to test new approaches to the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
“We have long been working to solve the most difficult problems associated with brain diseases, which cause a lot of pain and suffering. The emergence of this brain model promises a breakthrough in medicine,” said the head of the research team, Rene Anand from Ohio University, in an interview with the BBC.
