American Virginia Thrasher wins Rio's first gold
19-year-old American Virginia Thrasher became the first gold medalist of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Thrasher won the air rifle competition from 10 meters. The result of the winner is 208 points. The second and third places went to Chinese women Do Li and Y Sylin.
The Olympics in Rio became the first in the career of Virginia Thrasher. Nobody expected her victories: they all bet on Du Lee, who had already won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics of the year. Virginia admitted that she even missed the opening ceremony of the Olympiad to go to bed early before the competition.
Another American, Sarah Scherer took the place in the 8 competition.
