American decided to independently cross the Pacific Ocean in a boat
Orlando, Fla., Sonia Baumstein, Sunday, June 7, went soloing in a rowing boat. She intends to become the first woman to cross the Pacific Ocean alone.
Boat 29-year-old American woman called "Icha" made by special order. It is about 7 meters in length, weighs less than 300 kilograms and has neither a motor nor a sail.
Baumstein plans to row 14-16 hours a day, weather permitting. She will travel 9,6 thousands of kilometers from the coast of Japan to San Francisco. The athlete hopes to complete her journey in late September.
In the entire history, only three cases of successful paddling across the Pacific have been known. Until now, no woman has made such a journey alone.
