American abandoned plans to swim across the Pacific

Sonya Baumstein from Florida, who set out on a single boat a week ago on a rowing boat across the Pacific Ocean, abandoned her plans.

The American began her journey from the shores of Japan and was supposed to finish in San Francisco. But severe weather conditions caused the loss of steering equipment almost immediately after sailing. 30-year-old American woman picked up the coast guard in Japan.

Her journey was supposed to last four to six months, but ended in failure just seven days after the start.

At present, not a single woman has been able to cross the Pacific Ocean in a rowing boat. The first to announce her intentions was Brit Sarah Outen in 2013. She was able to hold out for 149 days and end her journey in the Aleutian Islands.

Men, in turn, were able to double-row the Pacific Ocean at the oars.
