Americans and post-Soviet countries: where the State Department does not advise US citizens to go

The US State Department does not recommend that Americans visit Belarus, since this country has the highest level of danger - the fourth. This is stated on the site Department of State.

The State Department warns: Belarus is unsafe due to arbitrary compliance with laws and the risk of detention, as well as because of COVID-19.

Russia also has the highest danger level - "Do not travel". Do not travel to Russia due to COVID-19. Exercise extreme caution due to terrorism, harassment and arbitrary application of local laws, the agency's website says.

Ukraine added to the list of dangerous countries. Do not travel to Ukraine because of COVID-19, the State Department warns. Exercise increased caution due to crime and civil unrest. Some areas are at increased risk.

Azerbaijan not recommended due to COVID-19 and possible terrorism.

В Armenia it is also advised not to drive because of COVID-19 and some areas where the risk for Americans is increased.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not advisable to visit Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

В Moldova The Department of State advises increased caution due to an unresolved conflict, and in Tajikistan due to terrorism.

The State Department asks not to go to Туркменистан due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related preventive measures. The possibility of traveling to Turkmenistan cannot be reconsidered due to the limited capacity of the Embassy in Ashgabat to provide support to US citizens.

Thus, all the countries of the former Soviet Union were on the list of dangerous to visit, some only because of the COVID-19 pandemic, while others - due to the tense and unsafe situation in the country.
