"The Old Farmer's Almanac" has released its official forecasts for the winter of 2021 to 2022, calling the coming months "shake season."
“This coming winter may well be one of the longest and coldest we have seen in years,” the publication's editor Janice Steelman said in a statement.
Much of the country will experience a winter "punctuated by bone-chilling below-average temperatures," according to The Old Farmer's Almanac.
Snow will be an important part of winter weather for many places, including areas in the Midwest and sections of the northeast stretching from Maryland to Massachusetts.
From eastern Montana south to western Dakota and northeastern Colorado, snowfall will be above average.
Other parts of the central US will experience moderate temperatures but more snow, including a few storms.

Frosty sentiments are expected in the Ohio Valley, parts of New England, northern parts of the Deep South, and southeastern New Mexico.
The only area that will avoid the cold is the West Coast, with "mild" to "dry" winters in western Washington and Oregon, throughout California and much of Arizona and New Mexico.
And the only state with a warm forecast is Hawaii.
Up north in Canada, the season will be dominated by storms that will leave areas "wet, snow-covered, drenched and generally soggy," the almanac predicts.
“This coming winter won't be anything remarkable in terms of temperatures, but for our Canadian friends who will end up just wanting to dry out, it's going to be a really long season,” Stillman adds.
British Columbia is the only province expected to experience a mild and dry winter with "below-average precipitation and above-average temperatures throughout the season."
The southern half of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will be soft and humid, while southern Ontario and southwestern Quebec will be cold and humid.
The farthest southeastern corner of the country will have normal temperatures, but it will also be humid.
The rest of Canada will be soft and snowy.
