Amazon started delivering packages using drones
Amazon has officially started delivering drones to customers in Lockford, California and College Station, Texas. The Hill.

The Lockford service was first announced in June 2022 and officially launched six months later.
“Our goal is to safely take our drones into the sky. We are starting in these communities and will gradually expand deliveries to more customers over time,” said Natalie Bank, spokesperson for Amazon Air.

Amazon calls its delivery drones Prime Air and is working with the Federal Aviation Administration and local authorities in Lockford and College Station to launch the service.
After a customer "checks in" and orders a package, the company says the drone will fly into the customer's backyard and descend enough to drop the package before flying off. In a blog post earlier this year, Amazon officials said the goal is to deliver packages weighing no more than 2,3kg in less than 60 minutes.

Last month, the company showed off plans for a new series of drones that are expected to deliver packages around 2024.
The company will let customers know when drone delivery is available in their area.

To launch the program, Amazon received FAA safety certification to operate in Lockford, about 80 miles south of Sacramento, and College Station, home of Texas A&M University's main campus, just outside of Houston.
