Alabama, Michigan and Louisiana refused to accept refugees

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder also said that he opposes the admission of refugees from Syria: “We welcome everyone and are proud of the rich immigration history. But our first priority is the safety of citizens. ” At the same time, Snyder made a reservation that, although security measures will be strengthened, there will be no discrimination of immigrants by place of origin: our state and elsewhere around the world. ”

The governor of another state, Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, wrote an open letter to Barack Obama complaining that he was not even informed about the transfer of refugees to his state last week. “The smart thing to do would be to stop the flow of refugees coming into the United States,” Jindal said. “We need to take a good look at what happened in Europe before this problem reaches the United States.”

Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes hurried to reassure the governors: he said that all arriving Syrian refugees undergo a complicated and costly procedure of checking for belonging to terrorist organizations. Congressman from the state of New York Pete King, however, questioned the words of Rhodes, noting that the American intelligence services do not have a database of Syrian citizens.

Earlier, high-ranking American politicians have repeatedly expressed concerns about the reliability of refugees from Syria. But given the problems that our country is already facing, it is insane to accept hundreds of thousands of refugees, many of whom have big problems. ”
