Trump administration deports over a million illegal immigrants

The US Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) is going to deport a million illegal immigrants who represent a danger to the US or have been denied asylum, writes New York Daily News.

President Donald Trump on June 22 set a two-week deadline for Congress to pass reforms to the asylum system. Now, ICE is “ready to simply carry out its mission, which is to find, apprehend, and then deport the approximately one million people facing deportation orders,” said US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli.

“They went through the entire process and received a final deportation order,” he said of the migrants.

Cuccinelli added that the suspension of deportations has prevented the immigration system from functioning properly and contributed to the massive backlog of people in immigration detention centers run by the Border Patrol. This is "the second stage of the border crisis," Cuccinelli said. “We focus so much on the detention centers run by the Border Patrol. But the reason you see overcrowding in these facilities is because immigrants cannot be transferred to other facilities.”

According to the law, illegal immigrants should be kept in border patrol centers for no more than three days, but due to overcrowding of centers operated by ICE, migrants cannot transfer there in a timely manner.

On Friday, July 5, Trump made it clear that the deportations will begin “pretty soon,” but the number of people the administration wants to deport has not been revealed.

Reportedly, during the presidency of Barack Obama, deportation rates were higher — in 2012, about 410 000 illegal immigrants were deported. So far, Trump deported just over half of this number annually.

Last month, Trump said that he would have sent “millions” of immigrants, but it is unclear how this could be done given the current number of immigration personnel.

How to find a person detained by ICE?

Immigrants held in ICE can be found through systems online search detainees. Friends, relatives, and lawyers can also call any field office for enforcement and deportation.

You can search by A number — a nine-digit number, starting with the letter A, assigned to each alien during any immigration procedure — or by biographical information, for which you must specify the name and last name of the detained immigrant, your home country and date of birth.
