72-year-old Russian arrested for export to Russia of American military equipment

72-year-old Russian Dmitry Makarenko was arrested at the request of the FBI on the island of Saipan in the Pacific Ocean on charges of trying to export military equipment from the United States to Russia.

The detention took place more 29 December, but it became known only now, writes RBC.

The indictment against the 72-year-old Russian district court in the southern district of Florida issued another 15 June 2017 year. According to the data of the American authorities, Makarenko supplied military-grade night-vision devices to Russia, other military visualization devices and primers to ignite the charge. In addition, he is accused of money laundering.

According to the investigation, Makarenko is an accomplice of a native of Ukraine, who has American citizenship, Vladimir Nevidy, who in June 2018 court in the US sentenced 26 months to prison for conspiring to illegally export military technology to Russia.

The indictment states that US military equipment or defense services can be exported to other states only with the relevant license or with the written permission of the Department for the Control of Defense Trade.

Already on December 31 Makarenko appeared before a court on Saipan, where he was announced the essence of the charges. The court arrested him and decided to transfer further consideration of the case of Makarenko to the court of the State of Florida, at whose request he was detained. The court also granted the prosecution’s petition to deport the suspect to Florida.
