7 Wonderland Staten Island

When I had a little more time, I loved exploring New York: taking great distances and looking at houses, streets, parks, shops. Sometimes I had a feeling that I would soon get bored, because I had already visited everything. But in reality, the opposite turned out to be: the more I learned about New York, the more clearly I understood how little I know about it, writes Andrei Boychuk in an article for Immigrant Porada.

This article is about a not very popular area of ​​Staten Island. “An unfashionable village,” as I once wrote in one article. But for me personally, this is the closest and best area, because I live here. 🙂 A weighty argument, isn’t it? My wife and I decided to stay on this island forever. So, 7 wonders of Staten Island.

1. Fort Wadsworth

One of the fortresses that protected the entrance to New York from enemies. It has been preserved in excellent condition. The fort offers a wonderful panorama of Manhattan and the Verrazano Bridge. There is also a free museum in the fortress that tells its history. From the fortification, in 10-20 minutes you can walk to Roosevelt Beach - it is written about below.

2. Sailors' Snug Harbor

Once it was a territory with houses for older sailors. Now it has become a botanical garden, and the houses function as cultural centers.

3. 9 / 11 Monument

After the tragedy of 9 / 11 in New Jersey and Staten Island, monuments were created that symbolize the fallen houses and remind people who died during the tragedy. The monument is very beautiful and original, overlooking Manhattan.

4. Community Mobile Homes

If you live in a more provincial state, this won't surprise you. But one of the most popular cities in the United States is home to a mobile home park. Once upon a time, the developers of this park found a gap in the law and built it. Such a park is very unprofitable for the city, but extremely profitable for the owners. It may seem strange to add something like this to the list of the 7 Wonders of Staten Island, but this is a special part of New York - something you won't find in any other big city.

5. Ship graveyard (Ship Grave Yard)

This place may not be interesting to many, but if you are interested in massive industrial structures, then this is for you. In Staten Island you can see 2 cemeteries, where there are dozens of half-sunken ships on the water.

6. Historic Richmond

I am ashamed to admit, but for 3 of the year I have never visited this place. Historic Richmond (Historic richmond) is an open-air museum. There is a collection of historical buildings here. Some of them were transported here from other places. If you want to spend the day at a place where you can walk in the park, Historic richmond - a great place for this.

7. Roosevelt Beach (Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach)

The southern part of Staten Island was once a resort area for people from New York. Representatives of the elite had their holiday houses here. On the oceanfront, like Coney Island in Brooklyn, a boardwalk was built and a beach was created for relaxation. But the history of this place is much richer than its present. There was once an amusement park and restaurants on the beach, but everything was destroyed due to a fire. However, even today it is a very popular place among New Yorkers, and especially Staten Island residents. Here you can enjoy a very good view of the Verrazano Bridge and watch the incredible sunset on the embankment.

Soon there will be another 2 object in Staten Island, which, for certain, will become very popular and will attract many tourists. It is the largest Ferris wheel in the world, as well as shops. Outlets.
