7 Wonderland Queens

Queens is one of the boroughs of New York. It is different in that it has many different "cities". For example, if you are sending a letter to Brooklyn, Staten Island, the Bronx or Manhattan, then indicate that particular borough name. And Queens is special. It itself is divided into small “cities”: Long Island City, Jamaica, Flushing, Far Rockaway, Floral Park. That's why it's so confusing here. With new navigation systems, figuring this out is not a problem, but previously it was difficult to find your way. So, what can you see in Queens, writes Andrey Boychuk in an article for Immigrant Porada.

1. Forest hills

This is a historic area with Tudor-style houses that blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscaping. There is a very noisy and crowded street nearby. But when you get to Forest Hills, you feel the silence all around. You get the feeling that you are in some European historical town.

After a walk in this area, I advise all sweet tooths to visit Martha's Bakery. Everything here is very tasty, especially the Napoleons with fruit. Sometimes on holidays we come here from Staten Island to buy a cake.

2. Flushing Meadows - Corona Park

This is a park in the Corona neighborhood of Queens, where Expo 1964 took place, a world fair that showcased the technological achievements of mankind. Often during such exhibitions there are congresses on various issues. Basically, after such events, all pavilions are cleaned. But after this, some pavilions were left in the park.

This place is well planned, there is a lot of interesting things here: a lake, a “globe”, a museum, an ice skating rink, etc. By the way, here, near the pavilion with two columns, the filming of “Men in Black” and also “Iron Man” took place (Iron Man).

3. Pepsi-Сola Sign

In Long Island City (one of the cities of Queens) there is an old big sign Pepsi-Colathat glows at night. He has been here for over 60 years. And it looks very vintage against the backdrop of modern buildings and the park.

This sign is located on the banks of the East River in the park where you can have a good time. In the same park you can admire the opening view of Manhattan.

4. Noguchi Museum

The museum is an American sculptor and landscape designer who was delighted with Japanese culture. The simplicity of his sculptures and other works is amazing. All things are made in a minimalist, but deep and harmonious style.

In addition to sculptures and landscapes, Isamu Noguchi is known for its furniture. The museum building was built in a modern style, where most of the exhibits are located in the open air.

5. Park Socrates Scalper

Not far from the Noguchi Museum there is a sculpture park, which often hosts various exhibitions, festivals, and also shows open-air cinema.

By the way, open-air cinemas in parks have become very popular recently in New York. They are all free. My favorite thing is watching movies in Brooklyn Bridge Park, which overlooks the panorama of Manhattan at night.

6. Fort Totten Park

One of the old fortifications in New York, which once protected the coastline of the island. This is one of the few such structures that remained in the city. Around it is a park where you can have a great time on a warm sunny day.

7. Hindu Temple (The Ganesh Temple of Queens)

If you are fascinated by a diverse culture, you can visit a Hindu temple in Queens, built in the style typical of Indian culture.
