14 million illegal immigrants cost US taxpayers $ 130 billion

The number of illegal immigrants in the United States has increased by nearly 2 million to now total 14,3 million, according to new estimates from a key immigration policy group.

Citing several reasons for the increase over the past two years, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) said the total number of illegal immigrants could rise to 6 million in just six years—unless reforms are enacted to stop illegal immigration and streamline legal entry. to the country, writes Washington examiner.

“The new numbers indicate that we have entered a new phase in the ongoing phenomenon of illegal immigration,” said Dan Stein, president of FAIR.

“In the past, illegal immigration flows were dominated by Mexico, and most illegal migrants apprehended at our borders were quickly repatriated. Now, as a result of easily exploitable policies and intense divisions in Washington that prevent even the most sensible reforms, migrants are crossing the border almost everywhere and remaining in the country,” he added.

In addition to increasing the illegal population, the FAIR found that taxpayer spending had risen: this year the total amount was 130 billion. The costs of federal, state, and local governments range from security to free health care and undocumented immigrants.

And if by 2025 year forecasts of 21 million illegal immigrants come true, FAIR predicts spending totaling 200 billion dollars.

The immigration groups will undoubtedly challenge the FAIR figures. This group is one of several research centers for immigration policy reform that the South Center for Poverty Alleviation has called the “hate group”. FAIR 2 has a million members.

In calculating the number of illegal immigrants to the United States, the FAIR used data from the US Census Bureau and made adjustments to the "underestimation" of those who do not participate in government polls. The data did not include children of illegal immigrants born in the United States whose birth within the country gives them citizenship. According to FAIR, this amounts to 4,3 million people.

“Many mass migration groups don't want Americans to know how big our illegal alien problem is. So, to minimize the problem, they perform all sorts of mathematical gymnastics to arrive at estimates of the illegal population that they deem "acceptable to the majority of American society," according to the report, written by Matthew J. O'Brien, FAIR's scientific director.

The new report states that the growth of illegal immigrants is the result of several factors, including court decisions against President Trump, the weakening of Obama-era immigration laws, and the fast-paced US economy.

It is also noted that more and more illegal immigrants come from distant countries, and not just from Central America.

“Without action in Washington to secure the border and curb humanitarian abuses, the sharp increase in the illegal alien population and taxpayer costs will continue unabated,” FAIR's Stein said.
