An 11-year-old boy from Zaporizhia traveled alone a thousand kilometers to Slovakia to escape the war

An 11-year-old boy from Zaporozhye independently reached the border with Slovakia and crossed it on foot, reports Ukrainian Truth.

In Ukraine, women, children and the elderly go abroad en masse. Sometimes children are forced to overcome this path on their own in order to get to a safe place.

An 11-year-old boy from Zaporozhye has become a hero that all of Ukraine is talking about. He crossed the customs checkpoint on the night of March 6 on his own, because his mother was forced to stay in Ukraine.

This story was told on the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia.

The workers specified that the child had a small backpack and a plastic bag. The phone number of relatives who live in Slovakia and can take care of the boy was written on his hand.
The border guards of Slovakia noted that the boy conquered them with his smile, fearlessness and determination - he was a real hero.

Volunteers at the border took care of the boy: they treated him to warm tea, fed him, placed him in a warm place, and also packed food for the journey. Then the traveler was taken to Bratislava, where he was met by relatives.
The next day, after successfully crossing the border, the boy's mother Yulia recorded a video message. She noted that she is a widow and mother of many children.

“I am very grateful that they saved the child’s life, because next to my city there is a nuclear power plant, which the Russian occupiers fired at and it was burning. I can’t leave my mother because she’s 84 years old and she can’t move on her own,” the woman explained.

She added that she had no choice but to put her son on a train to the border with Slovakia. The main goal of Julia's desperate act was to deliver her son to relatives in safety.
